Samuel Bastos, was born in 1987 at Oliveira - Barcelos, Portugal, he began his musical studies at the age of 7 with his father. In 1997 he enrolled the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music of Braga, in 2005 he concluded the 8th oboe degree in teacher's José Fernando Silva class.
He attended oboe master classes with the following teachers: Alex Klein, Pedro Ribeiro, Ricardo Lopes, Nelson Alves, Thomas Indermühle, Christian Wetzel, Emanuel Abbhuel, Christian Schmidt, Gordon Hunt, Hansjorg Schellenberger and Maurice Bourgue.
He integrated la Orchestre d´Harmonie des Jeunes de L´Union Europeenne, Philharmonie of the Animato foundation , European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), The World Orchestra and Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester.
He played with the Remix Ensemble,Orquestra Gulbenkian,Sinfonia Varsovia, Symphonisches Orchester Zurich,Musikkollegium Winterthur, Zürcher Kammer Orchester and Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich.
He worked with many solists and conductors as José Carreras, Hakan Hardenberger, Josep Vicent, Laurence Cummings, Peter Rundel, Omri Hadari, Peter Csaba, Alexander Lazarev, Howard Griffiths, Lutz Köhler, Paavo Järvi, Ingo Metzmacher, Christof Escher, Hans Zender, Muhai Tang, Peter Eötvös, Ton Koopman, Jesus Lopez Cobus, David Zinman and Bernard Haitink.
He performed solo in Portugal, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.
He is a member of Double Reeds Ensemble (Lisbon) and of the Reeds Trio “Animatto” that won the 2nd prize in the Competition of the Young Musicians of Portuguese Radio Diffusion (RDP-2005) in the modality Chamber Music.
He received a scholarship from Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian, Lyra Stiftung, Bruno Shuler Stiftung, Eppur si muove Stiftung e Elsy Meyer Stiftung .
Since September 2010 is member of Opernhaus Zürich (Akademie) and solo oboist of the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra.
Currently, he studies in the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Switzerland) in teacher Martin Frutiger (Englisch Horn) and Thomas Indermühle class.
